Parrot

Yesterday I noticed a parrot in cage in my neighbor’s house and it made me recall that two parrots have died in the same cage and it’s the third one they bought recently.

I am forced to think that human beings are horrible to animals. What if somebody puts us in a small cage for all our life? What’d be our life after that? I think it is hideous practice and should be made illegal. Whenever I see birds in cages I feel very sad because I can’t let them out. If one has to keep bird in cage then its ok as long as you let them out for exercise flights in the house. Cages should be large and proper care must be taken.

But it’s damn cruel to clip their wings and never let them out of their cage. I'm not happy about keeping animals or birds in small cages and so I would never keep a bird. If we had more compassion for animals we’d be better people and we’d be happier too.

  4. Vivarjitha - I have heard or read somewhere that its not a great idea to buy a caged bird and set them free. Since the bird we buy are usually not from that area and are captured somewhere in villages or jungles. So setting them free in a city area where they are not aware of sources of food, water and shelter actually makes them more miserable. Also birds leave in groups and without a proper group (other groups do not let an unknown enter theirs... cruel world) the lonely bird is left to struggle alone...

  6. most animals should be in freedom. it is so much more joy to see/watch an animal in its own territory than in a zoo or in a cage at home....

  8. I saw in some places, a single fish in a big water tank.. (especially at home)(their reason-to clean the water). But the people should think ..can a single person live in an island?

I think, most of the people dont know the sufferings of the animals..Surely this article will create awareness.

    Nice article..Ram.

  9. Problem is human beings have a superiority complex over other creatures. They feel all other animals exist for them, either for eating or for entertainment.

  10. Hi Ram,

I understand how you feel about it. I was like you before. I didn't want to see bird on a cage. But, I never think its cruelty as long as they are well taken care of. I just accepted the fact that people wanted to have somebody with them, even if they are just a small bird inside a cage. I rather prefer them in a cage, than they are somewhere, and some hunters will shoot them and put them in one of their collection of dead animals. That’s I believe is cruelty.

  11. I can undersatd that you feelabout this. I love birds. I have one at home and he is my best flying friend. He has very big cage and we let him fly very very often. I can't stand situation when poeople are cruel to animals.
